Instructor Bio

Hi there. My name is Ashley Suggs. I moved to Alton, MO from Texas with my husband and two small children in 2022. I first started learning about sourdough in the fall of 2019, and have been working with it ever since. The way I approached sourdough in the beginning is what I now call “survival sourdough”. I just wanted to know enough to replace buying bread products from the store. Over time I gained the skills and confidence that led me to not being afraid to make all kinds of new sourdough recipes. Sourdough is very forgiving and versatile. This is why I love sourdough and love to recommend it to others!

In this class I will demonstrate a basic artisan loaf recipe. The focus will be on what to look for when incorporating the dough, how to do the stretch and fold technique, shaping, and understanding how humidity and temperature impact the bread making process. While we go through this process, I will share the tips and tricks I’ve learned over the last 5+ years. There are so many wonderful things that can be made with sourdough that I can’t wait to share with you! Those who attend this class will go home with their own starter and some flour for its first feeding. I hope to see you there!
